The Man….

Russ de Luca is a 27-year-old musician from New York. He is a graduate of the music program at the SUNY Purchase School of Performing Arts. Interested in music from an early age in life, Russ has been performing since the age of six.

Russ has been a member of many successful showcasing bands over the years performing their original songs, but has also pursued writing and recording his solo original music at the same time. Most recently he appeared on the nationally televised Don Imus show on MSNBC performing with the group Mrs. Robinson.

As a solo performer, Russ has issued several CDs full of the music that reflects what he’s all about. His music has soul. Billboard Magazine took notice and offered to showcase him to members of the music industry. The Cutting Room in NYC hosted him privately as part of Billboard’s Underground Series. The Music….The Influences….

Rock. Pop. Funky. Sinuous. Two genres of music, and two adjectives. All four of them accurately describe the music of Russ de Luca.

Russ is adventurous with his music. He is exploratory. The listener is always wondering what’s going to come next, and Russ doesn’t disappoint. It’s not possible to accurately classify his music, but if one was to try, perhaps you would conclude that it’s rock and pop with a funk edge.

This may also bring to mind some of Russ’ key influences. They include many artists in many genres, but several stand out. The top three would be Prince, Lenny Kravitz and The Beatles.

In much the same way as Prince, Russ is cutting edge, always thinking of something new before someone else. He pushes the envelope of writing, recording and performing. His multi-textured, multi-layered music demands several listens to discover all the paths that wind through it. His lyrics are representative of his experiences, his passions, his concerns and how these things relate to others. Which is perhaps one of the most important points to make about Russ’ music. People relate to it.

The influence of Lenny Kravitz brings the amazing combination of rock, funk, pop and spunk to Russ’ music to create a melting pot of great sounds. Kravitz is attitude. He’s a great guitar player. He’s a great writer. He’s a charismatic rocker. Russ does not merely emulate these qualities, he makes them his own and takes them to a higher level.

In much the same way as Prince and Lenny Kravitz, Russ is an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. He is highly experienced at writing for and playing the drums, bass, guitar, piano and other methods of percussion. They are all well within Russ’ performance realm. Russ is also fluent in multi-track recording, mixing, engineering, mastering and producing. All of these abilities combined create the unique sound that is Russ de Luca. He has worked with many local artists to help them realize their potential and dreams by recording their music. Russ is an enabler.

Finally there is the influence of The Beatles. Not many recording artists today can say that they were never influenced in some way by The Beatles, and Russ is no exception. The Beatles to-the-point, catchy songs filled with pop sensibility and hooks always appealed to Russ, and those qualities have seeped into his music.

In summary, Russ de Luca is dynamic, inventive, sensible, curious, and adventurous with his song writing and performing. One listen will tell you, “This guy’s got something!”
